Ukrainians introduce online petition to remove all Russian-language songs from streaming platforms
An online petition has appeared on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers demanding to remove all Russian-language songs from streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify. The authors of the petition insist that this is a matter not only of the preservation of culture but also of national security.
One of the key arguments is that listening to such songs on popular platforms brings benefits and brings the performers more profit, so the budget of the aggressor state increases through taxes. The authors of the petition believe that the ban will not only help reduce Russia's cultural influence, but will also stimulate the development of Ukrainian-language music.
It is also noted that music shapes the worldview, especially among teenagers. Restricting Russian-language content can help avoid the influence of Russian culture and promote the development of Ukrainian music.
"The ban on songs in Russian will not limit the freedom of choice of citizens, as Ukrainians will be able to enjoy a large amount of music performed in other languages. It will also open up new opportunities for popularizing the music of other nations," the authors point out.
They propose that the government consider an official regulation of the content of streaming platforms, oblige them to restrict access to Russian-language music in Ukraine, and launch campaigns promoting Ukrainian artists.
The petition is already gaining popularity among Ukrainians, and if it gathers the required number of signatures, the Cabinet of Ministers will be forced to consider this issue.
We would like to remind you that despite the fact that Ukraine is suffering every day from the bloody war initiated by Russia, not all citizens of our country refuse to listen to the content of artists from the aggressor country. For example, they helped Morgenstern's songs make it to the top 5 on Spotify Ukraine.
In the spring of 2022, Morgenstern released a video for the song "12," in which he raised the topic of Russia's war against Ukraine. He condemned the Kremlin's bloody policy and the beginning of a full-scale invasion. Then the artist decided to win over the Americans in their market, but the idea turned out to be unprofitable. The lack of money forced the Russian to wriggle again, so in 2023 he announced his desire to delight Russian listeners with his song.
