Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi took part in George Clooney's spy series The Agency: what was his role

28-year-old Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi took part in the spy thriller series The Agency, produced by American celebrity George Clooney. The first two episodes premiered on Paramount+ on November 29, so viewers can see Oleksandr playing the role of a Ukrainian military in the second one. He will also appear in the third, ninth and tenth episodes.

The star spoke about his role in the project in an interview with Harpers Bazaar. He admitted that he was very excited to receive such an opportunity.

"My agent told me about the casting. At first, I went through several rounds of self-auditions, and then I had a Zoom meeting with the director. When I found out that I got the role, I was very happy, but also nervous. There were many organizational issues. But in general, I was delighted with this opportunity," the celebrity said.

According to Rudynskyi, in the series, he played a Ukrainian soldier Sasha Butenko, who performs tasks under the guise of a doctor both in the government-controlled and occupied territories of Ukraine. To better understand his character, the actor underwent a week of intensive rehearsals in London and worked with instructors, including former soldiers.

The actor admitted that although he played in George Clooney's series, he was never able to see him, "The filming took place in Estonia and England, and Clooney never came to the set. I didn't even have time to think about it because I was completely immersed in my work."

Nevertheless, Oleksandr Rudynskyi did manage to meet some of his famous colleagues. Thus, in a hotel, he crossed paths with Richard Gere, who played the lead role.

According to Oleksandr, the series is really worthy of the world's attention because many famous people worked hard on its creation. Philip Martin and Joe Wright directed it, while the cast includes the oscar-winning Jeffrey Wright and Michael Fassbender.

"What is particularly important to me is the theme of Ukraine, which runs linearly through the entire plot. My character is part of this line, especially in the second, third, ninth and tenth episodes. There's one scene where my character decides to do something that all Ukrainians probably dream of. I would like to see this happen not only on the screen but also in real life," the celebrity said.

The Agency is an adaptation of the French series Le Bureau des Légendes (The Bureau), which aired from 2015 to 2020. The story tells about a CIA agent with the code name "Martian" who works in a mysterious department responsible for training and working with intelligence officers on long-term missions. He has been performing undercover tasks for six years but is now suddenly summoned to the head office in London.
