The X-Men star revealed how and what she used to hide her scars after a double mastectomy. Photos of Olivia Munn before and after surgery
Model and X-Men and Iron Man actress Olivia Munn, who underwent a complicated surgery to remove two mammary glands due to cancer in May 2023, said that she disguises her scars, which she calls "battle wounds." Even for the 2024 Oscars, the star used "tattoo makeup" to make her scars invisible.
Moreover, the star did not publicly announce her diagnosis at the time of the show's ceremony. She admitted to People that she even had to grow her hair to hide the scars.
"Sometimes I feel a little sad that I still want to hide some aspects. But then I remind myself that these are battle wounds, and I can show them if I want to and hide them when I want to. I don't reproach myself for anything I feel on a given day, I just let myself feel it. With that comes a really nice peace," Mann said.
The actress noted that at the 2024 Oscars, she managed to "fool" fans who never knew about the surgery and its consequences.
"We're trying to really trick out where the hollows are and how to make it really smooth and hide everything so that I can wear it [the Oscar dress]. It's not something that I can do myself, but knowing that there's that option when I'm in front of the camera made me feel so much better. Also, personally, the people in my life who see it don't see them as imperfections. So that's a good feeling too," the star admitted.
Today, the actress calls herself a "different version" and claims that she is actually glad she had a double mastectomy because it gave her the opportunity to fight cancer.
As a reminder, Olivia Munn publicly announced the surgery in March of this year. Last year, the 43-year-old actress underwent a test that checks for the presence of 90 different cancer genes in the body. A thorough examination showed a negative result, but the doctor decided to play it safe by ordering additional tests, and she was right.
She called herself "lucky" because the disease was detected at a stage when surgery could still help her. Her comedian lover, John Malaney, and her closest family were by her side at the time. A few years ago, the artist became a mother for the first time, so the support of her son was also important.
