The world's tallest and shortest women met for the first time and found out that they have a lot in common. Rare photos
The world's tallest and shortest women met for a cup of tea in London to celebrate the 20th Guinness World Records Day. Rumeysa Gelgi, a 27-year-old Turkish web developer, and Jyoti Amge, a 30-year-old Indian actress, became close during the meeting at The Savoy Hotel.
Gelgi joked that their height difference made it "hard to make eye contact," but said the meeting was "great" and "amazing." In addition, the record holders discovered that they actually have a lot in common, according to the official website of the Book of Records.
Amge, 30, is the world's shortest woman, standing at 62.8 cm, while Gelgi is known as the world's tallest woman at 215.16 cm. The Turkish citizen suffers from a rare disease called Weaver's syndrome, which causes accelerated growth and skeletal deformities – her case was only the 27th in the world and the first in her home country. She uses a wheelchair and can only stand with the help of a walker for short periods of time.
Jyoti Amge, an actress from India, has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia. The duo of female record holders were listed in the 70th anniversary edition of the Guinness Book of World Records. The celebrities, who received their titles in 2021 and 2011, held an English tea ceremony at The Savoy Hotel to mark the 20th anniversary of Guinness World Records Day.
"It was very nice to meet Joti for the first time. Sometimes it was hard to look into each other's eyes because of our height difference, but it was great. We have a lot in common: we both love makeup, grooming, and manicures," said Helgi. "I'm used to looking up and seeing people who are taller than me, but today I was very happy to look up and see the tallest woman in the world. I am very glad to have met Rumeisa, she is so good-natured and I felt very comfortable talking to her," said Amge.
