Masha Sebova reveals how travel shows are actually filmed

Travel blogger Masha Sebova has revealed how low-budget travel shows are made for television. According to her, viewers needed a so-called trashy picture, so a travel journalist had to leave her own comfort zone to do this.

For example, in an interview with Alina Dorotiuk, the blogger told how she starred in the Europe for a Penny project, where she had to look for free vacation options or for the lowest price. She explained that it was all done for ratings and views.

"I was filming my 'Europe for a penny' segment for television, and I had to live with couchsurfers. It's okay, but finding free accommodation and traveling is just extra-budgetary. I realized that finding absolutely free options, working a part-time job somewhere to earn money for these trips was all a story to impress the audience with this trashy picture that it is possible to travel on such a budget," the travel blogger said.

Now Masha Sebova creates travel content for her personal YouTube channel. She explained the differences between creating a product for television and for her blog.

"For me, the main difference is freedom. And the freedom to do what I like, the freedom not to do something for the sake of a rating that's lame, that's not lame," the blogger said. "And on YouTube, I wanted my YouTube channel to have a utilitarian function right away, so that people who want to travel but don't have a lot of money could take this as an instruction and go, but at the same time, they would have some kind of comfort, at least minimal, so that they could repeat it. And this was the difference, because on television, something like this about budget travel would not have worked without trash."
