The Pope appeared in public with a large bruise on his chin: the Vatican explained what happened to him

The Pope appeared in public with a large bruise

Pope Francis impressed the public with his appearance at the ceremony of the induction of new cardinals. The head of the Catholic Church appeared at an important event in St. Peter's Basilica with a large bruise on his chin.

As noted in the Vatican, the pontiff was injured as a result of a minor fall on the eve of the ceremony, Reuters reports. The Pope hit a cabinet.

A large bruise appeared on the right side of Francis' face between his chin and upper neck. However, despite the accident, the pontiff was in relatively good shape, so he led the ceremony of elevation of churchmen from 17 countries to the College of Cardinals.

It is worth noting that the 87-year-old Pope's health has been deteriorating since 2013. Currently, Francis appears in public in a wheelchair due to constant pain in his knees and back, but he does not refuse to fulfill his duties.

The pontiff has already appointed approximately 80% of the cardinals who will elect the next head of the Catholic Church after his death. At the ceremony, he called on the prelates to be "witnesses of brotherhood, craftsmen of communion, and builders of unity."
