The father of "Star Wars" turned out to be the richest celebrity in the world: he hasn't made a movie for 13 years

Forbes magazine has officially released the list of the world's richest billionaire celebrities, which this year includes Jay Z, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian and others. George Lucas, the creator of the legendary Star Wars franchise, topped the list. His fortune is estimated at 5.5 billion dollars (over 215 billion hryvnias).

The legendary director, screenwriter and producer received most of this amount after selling LucasFilm to Disney in 2012. This was reported by Forbes.

In 1971, Lucas founded Lucasfilm, which later became one of the most successful film companies in the world. He wrote and directed the first six episodes of Star Wars and produced all nine episodes. Lucas is also the creator of the Indiana Jones franchise, on which he collaborated with Steven Spielberg.

The director officially retired in 2012 when he sold Lucasfilm to Disney. He no longer directs films, but is still involved in some of his former company's projects, such as the Mandalorian series.

The second place in the ranking of the richest celebrities was taken by the aforementioned Steven Spielberg, the famous director of such blockbusters as Jaws, E.T. and Schindler's List. His net worth is estimated at $4.8 billion. Spielberg became a billionaire back in 1994, the first director to do so.

Michael Jordan, a basketball legend, rounds out the top three. His fortune is estimated at $3.2 billion. In 2015, he became the first billionaire athlete, mostly thanks to his collaboration with Nike.
