Singer Olha Tsybulska became involved in a scandal related to her parents' apartment in Irpin: what happened and why did neighbors rebel

Ukrainian singer and TV presenter Olha Tsybulska found herself embroiled in a dispute with the neighbors of the house in Irpin, Kyiv region, where her parents reside. The residents' home suffered severe damage from enemy shelling, leaving almost nothing of Tsybulska's parents' apartment.

The singer's family is awaiting the results of the state commission to commence reconstruction. Meanwhile, neighbors insist that the work should be carried out promptly. Tsybulska shared these details with OBOZ.UA in a statement.

Neighbors of the affected apartment building in Irpin posted an appeal on Instagram, stating that they are "trying to bring attention to the situation with Ms. Tsybulska's parents' apartment, which has been left in disrepair for over a year, with even the glass hanging over their heads. Ms. Natalia, Olha's mother, refuses to address the emergency state of the apartment and dismisses the neighbors as attention-seekers."

"The neighbors wish to initiate repairs inside the apartment on their own," Tsybulska clarified her stance to OBOZ.UA. "Meanwhile, my parents, in the process of addressing the issue, have engaged the city's architects. After inspecting my parents' apartment, they indicated that the ceiling in one of the rooms had collapsed, and there might be remnants of debris. A thorough examination is still required (as stated in the documents). There is also information about damage to the supporting structures - as indicated in the documents. Dismantling part of the floor is under consideration. Individuals can proceed with repairs independently, but in doing so, they must take responsibility for potential consequences during the work, the safety of the people involved, and the outcomes."

"Since this is the first incident (but I hope it will be the last) in our home, we have no experience with such situations," the singer continues, "so I'm not ready to take responsibility, and neither are my parents. We have submitted documents to the architectural department, Diia, the police, the prosecutor's office, and the city council. Everything that could be done has been done. We are in the queue, and our parents periodically update our status. They inform us that we will get there."

Olha Tsybulska's parents are currently staying with her: "Like all people, they dream of finally being in their own home. They lost everything they had. At the age of 60, they were left with nothing, but thankfully, they are alive. I understand that it is very difficult for people to understand us, but we are experiencing the same tension as everyone else, the same stress, and constant anticipation. I genuinely believe that all this will be resolved through legal means. From my perspective, this war is also about upholding the law." 

When asked if the singer's mother indeed got into an open conflict with the neighbors and called them names, Tsybulska says, "Given the context poured out every day in the chats, the accusations I received personally on social media, and what my parents went through, I believe they are being very tolerant and restrained. We've had a lot of negativity directed at us. It seems unacceptable to settle disputes using such tones and positions. There is a law - let's follow it. We have to wait for the decision and actions of the official commission."
