On February 24, a church service was held in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, to mark the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The service was held at Holmen Church and was attended by Their Majesties King Frederik X and Queen Mary, as well as high-ranking officials of the country.
Along with the royal couple, the service was attended by the Speaker of the Danish Parliament Søren Gade, Ambassador of Denmark to Ukraine Andriy Yanevsky and government officials. They gathered to express their support for the Ukrainian people and show solidarity in this difficult time. The royal family posted a photo report from the event on Instagram.
"Today marks exactly three years since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and on this occasion, the Presidium of the Danish Parliament has taken the initiative to organize a church service to mark Denmark's support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people," the Danish leaders said.
The service was led by Bishop Peter Birch of Elsinore, who is also the chairman of the Danish Council of Churches. As part of the service, priests of Ukrainian churches in Denmark held prayers: The Bible reading was read by Fr. Vasyl Tykhovych of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the prayer was read by Fr. Serhiy Berezhnyi of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The President of the Danish Parliament, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark, and the Minister of Industry and Trade also delivered speeches during the event. They emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine, emphasized the strong ties between the two countries and assured that Denmark would continue to support the Ukrainian people.
For the event, the King and Queen wore gray and black to honor the memory of the fallen.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that King Frederick X appeared in public with three younger children. Only the eldest son of the couple, 19-year-old Crown Prince Christian, who became the heir to the throne since his father was named King of Denmark on January 14, 2024, was missing on the red carpet.
