Now like a real Terminator. Arnold Schwarzenegger has a pacemaker after three open heart surgeries

Arnold Schwarzenegger has a pacemaker installed

The world-famous American bodybuilder, actor, and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that last Monday he was fitted with a pacemaker after three open-heart surgeries. According to the 76-year-old filmmaker, he has now become even more like his iconic Terminator character, as he has a "machine part."

As you know, the former governor of California first underwent open-heart surgery to replace a pulmonary valve in 1997. He was forced to repeat similar interventions in 2018, and in 2020, the actor underwent a similar operation to replace his aortic valve. Now he has been fitted with a pacemaker, reports the Daily Mail.

"Last Monday, I had surgery to become a little more of a machine: I got a pacemaker. I have to tell you that me telling you this goes against my upbringing in Austria, where no one ever talked about medical problems. Everything related to healthcare was kept to yourself. But I received so many messages and letters from people who were born with a bicuspid aortic valve, just like me. They told me that talking about my valve replacement surgery gave them the courage and hope to cope with their problems," Schwarzenegger said.

The "Terminator", who has had a heart defect since birth, was quick to reassure his fans that he was feeling very well. Last Monday, the movie star was fitted with a pacemaker, and on Friday he attended a major environmental event with his friend and fitness colleague Jane Fonda.

However, Schwarzenegger is still upset about something: he will have to take a break from his workouts, which he hasn't stopped despite his advanced age.

The actor also shared his thoughts on the installation of a pacemaker: "My doctors advised me that it was time to go through with it because some scar tissue from a previous surgery made my heartbeat irregular. This had been the case for several years, so I kept in touch with my medical team and visited the doctors at least once a year to get a full checkup and find out how my heart was doing."

After his next surgery in 2020, Schwarzenegger admitted that he was preparing to get a pacemaker. Doctors then told him that he should "keep his finger on the pulse" and monitor his condition.

As the actor himself explained, when the aortic valve doesn't work properly, "it can obstruct blood flow and make the heart work harder to send blood to the rest of the body."

"That's life with a genetic heart defect. But you won't hear me complaining," the "Terminator" bravely commented.

As OBOZ.UA wrote, Arnold Schwarzenegger condemned Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine back in March 2022. And not so long ago, he again mentioned our country by reposting a Ukrainian post.
