Music critics have named the worst songs of 2024: the list includes world-famous stars
Every year, global artists release a number of songs that evoke strong emotions among the audience. However, they do not always manage to achieve a positive impression despite their big name.
Summarizing the results of 2024, music critics have named the worst tracks of the year. According to Variety, the list features 15 artists, including such favorites as Katy Perry, Camila Cabello, and Nicki Minaj.
Katy Perry's song "Woman's World" was the first to be included in the anti-rating. According to critics, at first glance, the song was supposed to be about strong, intelligent and motivated women, but in reality it became a "faux-feminist anthem."
The next comes "Think U The Shit (Fart)" by rapper Isis Gaston, better known by her pseudonym Ice Spice. According to experts, the song's title alone speaks for itself. According to music critics, they are disappointed that contemporary artists consider the creation of such songs to be something fun and truly worthy.
The experts were not impressed by Nicki Minaj's track "Big Foot" either. The composition was a kind of response to Megan Thee Stallion's hit "Hiss," where she mentioned the star's infamous husband Kenneth Petty, who was convicted of a rape attempt of a 16-year-old girl. According to Thania Garcia, the singer demonstrated absolute unprofessionalism, "There are so many perplexing verses but the most unsettling portion comes at the end when Minaj directs her insults to Megan in ASMR."
The track "Karma" by the American singer JoJo Siwa has been included in the anti-chart too. With this song, the Nickelodeon star wanted to demonstrate her transition from a "good" to a "bad" girl. However, according to critics, the singer did not succeed in this, as she was not convincing at all.
Camila Cabello's track "I Luv It", which she recorded together with rapper Playboi Carti, also saw a bad result. They noted that the artist read out his part of the composition too illegibly, and the performer repeated the same phrase almost throughout the song. "Honestly, the production isn’t bad, and the whole track is less terrible than it is just hilarious. But you have to imagine that the folks who laid out big bucks for the music video were hoping for more than a collective "That’s amusing" response,'" the expert explained.
The song "Facts" by Tom MacDonald and American commentator Ben Shapiro "impressed" music critics with a large number of clichés and intolerant statements, such as "There’s only two genders, boys and girls" or "I'm not ashamed because I'm white."
Ty Dolla Sign, Playboi Carti and Rich The Kid's "Carnival" comes next. "It is one of Ye’s more inferior hit singles. Gross misogyny Ye consistently invokes."
Music critics have called the song "Now or Never" by Pitbull and Jon Bon Jovi a failed attempt to increase their audience by attracting the TikTok generation.
Experts expressed a similar opinion about the joint work of David Guetta and the pop band OneRepublic "I Don't Wanna Wait."
Bailey Zimmerman's track "New to Country" has also made it to the anti-rating. According to experts, the singer started a great career creating touching country tracks. However, he probably wanted to look more brutal, which didn't work out well.
According to critics, Julia Fox's song "Down the Drain" can be a great example of how actors should not always try their hand at music.
The experts were not impressed by the track "New Woman" by Lisa, a former member of the South Korean k-pop group Blackpink, and Spanish singer Rosalia. They noted that both artists have great voices and unique styles of music, but in their duet song, it seems that they recorded the composition separately, and their performance styles failed to combine harmoniously.
Jason Derulo and Michael Bublé's song "Spicy Margarita" is not worth much attention because it is actually a modified version of the track "Sway".
Brian Kelly's song "Kiss My Boots" was one of the worst songs of 2024.
Critics consider the collaboration between Meghan Trainor and rapper T-Pain "Been Like This" to be a flop because the artists have completely different styles. The former often resorts to deeper meanings, while the latter does not shy away from rude expressions.
