Germany's representative at Eurovision 2024, Isaak, made a cynical statement about Russia in a new interview. He expressed a desire to return the terrorist country to the contest, but less than an hour later, this quote was removed. Obviously, the artist's reputation was in jeopardy, so they tried to hush up the scandal.

However, many European fans managed to read the original version of the interview and were outraged by the German's position. ZDF 's website also posted a note saying that "a fragment of the interview was removed after publication and the article was adapted accordingly."

The artist, unlike many of his colleagues, does not condemn Israel's participation in the contest, so he was asked about his position on the country's representative, Eden Golan, who will need security at Eurovision.

"I don't understand this. Why kick Israel out? Let Russia return to the contest as well. We are musicians here, not politicians," Isaak said.

This particular quote was later removed, leaving the artist's abstract position, where he criticizes the European broadcaster for excluding participants from countries whose government "does something that does not suit us from a moral point of view." This statement probably applies not only to Israel but also to Russia.

Isaak has already spoken to the Eurovision organizing committee about this topic and received an explanation. According to the artist, the real reason for Russia's exclusion from the contest is not terrorist attacks on Ukrainians, but "free journalism." They say Russia doesn't have it, so they banned it.

"It was explained to me, and it was easy to understand. There is free journalism in Israel, but not in Russia. In order not to support Russian propaganda, it was said that, unfortunately, we cannot allow Russia to participate. So it was decided to allow Israel to participate, but not Russia. I don't like it either, but I can understand it," the German singer said. This fragment, by the way, was left in the interview.

X (formerly Twitter) reacted to the statements of the German representative at Eurovision 2024.

"Just so you know: In Germany, more than 90% of non-immigrants support Israel and about 15% are at least sympathetic to Russia, so Isaac's statements shouldn't come as a big surprise.", "Sorry to disturb your 'non-political world', but it's inhumane to continue using the country for propaganda and continue bombing civilians.", "Is he serious?", users wrote.
