Kate Middleton has banned her children from participating in a bloody royal tradition that has been followed for generations
Princess Kate Middleton of Wales has strongly opposed her children's participation in the ancient royal tradition of hunting. This is stated in the new book "Yes, Madam - The Secret Life of Royal Servants" by royal expert Tom Quinn.
According to the published excerpts, the Daily Mail reports that Middleton insisted that her three children - Prince George, 11, Prince Louis, 9, and Princess Charlotte, 6 - not participate in the centuries-old ritual of "bloodletting." The tradition stipulates that young members of the royal family, after their first hunt, must "sanctify" their faces with the blood of the hunted animal, usually a deer or fox.
"Charles's daughter-in-law, Catherine, Princess of Wales, stood her ground and insisted that there would be no blood for her children," the book says. This ritual has existed in the royal family for many centuries and was perceived as a way to mark the transition from childhood to adulthood.
Earlier, King Charles III, Princes William and Harry went through it. The latter in his autobiography "Spare" described in detail how he went through this experience at the age of 15 when he had to kill a deer. He described how his guide forced him to put his head down into the animal's carcass, which became his "moment of initiation."
Unlike many members of the royal family, the Princess of Wales has always had a complicated attitude towards hunting. She repeatedly accompanied Prince William to hunting events, but did not take an active part in them herself.
Tom Quinn notes in his new book that Kate was adamant in her stance and stood her ground when it came to the question of involving children in the rite. She refused to allow George, Louis, and Charlotte to participate in a tradition that she considered cruel and outdated.
As a reminder, royal traditions related to hunting have been repeatedly criticized by animal rights activists. Earlier, Prince Harry faced outrage from PETA because of a frank description of the ancient rite.
Although Prince George and his younger brother and sister spend a lot of time at Balmoral, the royal family's favorite hunting estate, participation in such rituals is now prohibited for them.
