Jared Leto cynically supported Russian actors at the BAFTA 2025 awards, where a movie about the war in Ukraine won. Photo

At the 2025 BAFTA Awards, where the film about the war in Ukraine, Rock, Paper, Scissors, and Scissors by Franz Boehm, won, American actor Jared Leto found himself at the center of a scandal over his controversial communication with Russian actors.Despite the fact that the film, starring Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi, won the Best British Short Film award and was dedicated to war hero Yevhen Svitlychnyi, Leto decided to draw attention to the Russian nominees.

On his Instagram page, where he has almost 12 million followers, Leto posted several photos with Russian actors Yura Borisov and Mark Eidelstein, who were representing the film Anora. In one of the pictures, Leto posed with them, and in another, he was promoting the actors separately. It is worth noting that there were no photos with the Ukrainian team in his selection.

This gesture caused euphoria among the Russian audience. Comments like: "Jared Leto took a photo with his idols" and "Yura Borisov and Mark Eidelstein took a picture with their fan." Russian media are actively discussing that Borisov now has new "Hollywood friends."

Interestingly, Borisov himself was left without the most prestigious film awards for the second time in a year - although Anora won awards at the BAFTAs, the actor lost in the Best Supporting Actor category to Kiran Kalkin for his role in True Grit.

Against this backdrop, the performance of Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi was particularly striking, as he dedicated the award to his friend Yevhen Svitlychnyi, who died in the war.

"Glory to Ukraine," he said from the stage, while Jared Leto chose other heroes for his audience.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that the BAFTA host made fun of Putin and the movie Anora, which starred Russian actors. This joke was not appreciated by the stars present in the hall.
