Svitlana Poklad, the wife of one of the most famous Ukrainian composers, Igor Poklad, admitted that perhaps her husband's most famous song, "Magic Violin," performed by Nina Matviienko, was intended for another singer. The name of this artist is Sofia Rotaru.

Svitlana Poklad told about this in an interview with OBOZ.UA. Ihor Poklad and Nina Matviienko have been friends for decades.

Ihor Poklad has more than five hundred songs in his creative output. They have been performed by Nina Matviienko, Dmytro Hnatiuk, Tamara Gverdtsiteli, Ruslana, Tina Karol, Katia Buzhynska, Muslim Magomaiev, Yurii Guliaev, Yevhenia Miroshnychenko and other famous performers.

"The Magic Violin" ("The Power of the Bird") occupies a special place in the composer's work. The song was written in collaboration with the poet Yuriy Rybchynskyi, as well as many other works - the musicians have been friends and have been working together for decades. Rybchynskyi once brought his friend some lines of poetry, saying, "You'll see. And Poklad wrote the melody in five minutes - he liked the words so much. The song acquired a special flavor in the performance of Nina Matviienko, who incredibly managed to convey all the sensuality and melody put into the song by the composer and poet.

"And just so you know, the song 'Magic Violin' that Nina Mytrofanivna made famous was originally addressed to Sofia Rotaru," Svitlana Poklad told OBOZ.UA, "But Nina came, listened, and said she wouldn't give it back: "I will sing it!" We were friends for many years. She often visited us. We even had a tradition during our visits: I would take pictures of her and Poklad in the same pose. We have the same three photos in our archive."
