"I was supposed to stand on stage and smile": Dovbush star Oleksiy Hnatkovsky confesses why future actors hated him

The star of the movie Dovbush, the popular actor Oleksiy Hnatkovsky, is a political scientist by profession, but back in 2008 he devoted himself to theater, which caused discontent among his colleagues. He was hired by the theater without a specialized education to smile on stage, but later began to be trusted with leading roles.

This is how the political scientist discovered his talent for acting in front of an audience, although he still wonders if he made the right decision by taking up acting. Hnatkovsky shared his thoughts and memories in an interview with the ZhVL.

"Imagine, I came and started dancing because I had been dancing in a folk group since childhood. I went to dance, and the directors saw me there. They said: "A handsome guy. Let's take him on stage and let him just stand there and smile," the actor recalled the events of 15 years ago.

He wasn't chasing fame, he was just having fun, looking for love. Frankivsk joked that he came to the theater "for love," and later became a hero in local newspapers when his managers were accused of working with "people from the street."

"A guy from the street came and plays some roles in the theater, while we are studying to be actors, and we don't act. There was even an article in the newspaper that people from the street work in the theater. I was making fun of myself. You know, when you live in it all the time, everyone looks at you like this: you took my place, you're working here, and people are studying there. I've always said that actors die on stage, and political scientists get hit by a car under the theater," Hnatkovsky joked.

In those years, the star of Dovbush received a salary that was enough to buy a bottle of vodka a month.

And although the actor is not ready to end his acting career, he asks himself every day whether he made the right choice, doubts and reflects on his own dignity.
