"He is a decent person". Pedan justified his support for Liiev, who is suspected of embezzling money from the Armed Forces, but provoked a new scandal

Ukrainian showman Oleksandr Pedan spoke in court in support of the former acting director of the Department of Military and Technical Policy of the Ministry of Defense Oleksandr Liev, who is suspected of embezzling 1.5 billion hryvnias for the purchase of mines for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which no one has received. Pedan's support greatly angered the TV presenter's supporters, who later began to justify his actions and position on the suspect.

The first wave of hate was posted on the showman's Instagram, to which Pedan did not respond. Later, he published a post explaining the reason for defending Liev, who was also planning to cross the border in Chernivtsi region, in court, but it did not help - the TV presenter was again attacked with indignation.

"I came to the High Anti-Corruption Court session on January 29 to guarantee that he would not avoid justice, would not travel abroad and would cooperate with the investigation. This possibility is provided for by law and is an absolutely normal practice. Does this mean that I do not believe in the charges against him? Of course not, because this is a matter of justice, and I cannot make professional assessments," Pedan wrote.

He decided not to justify Liev as much as he tried to avoid responsibility for his friend's bail, which failed because it created a new wave of hate.

"We live in a democratic country, so if a person has really committed a crime, he or she should be punished fairly. If not, they should be acquitted. Definitely," the showman said.

It is interesting that Oleksandr Pedan began his "speech" with his previous statements about Liev as a "good family man and father" and about the length of their friendship, which no one seemed to believe.

"I have personally known Oleksandr Liev for over ten years, we have been really good friends for all this time. I know him as a decent person, a good family man, a loving father of five children, whose family has been in Ukraine throughout the great war," the TV presenter wrote.

As we noted above, his audience was not reassured by his excuses, and his followers are almost calling the showman a "traitor."
