Good Times star with Robert Pattinson dies at 38: what happened

It has become known that Buddy Duress, an American actor known primarily for the movie Good Times starring Robert Pattinson, has died. He was 38 years old.

The cause of death is called "cardiac arrest from a drug cocktail". This information was confirmed to PEOPLE magazine by the brother of the deceased, Christopher Statis.

Buddy Duress was born in Queens, New York, in May 1985. He appeared in two indie films by the Safdie brothers, and his film debut was the 2014 film Heaven Knows What.

For many years, the actor struggled with drug addiction. Shortly before he started his acting career, he was in prison on Rikers Island. The reason was the same: drugs. After his release, the filmmakers asked Duress to write a diary about his time behind bars, and then adapted his stories into the script for the movie Good Times.

So, in fact, the film, which was selected to participate in the main competition program of the 70th Cannes International Film Festival (2017) in competition for the Palme d'Or, is an adaptation of Buddy's memoirs about his time in Rikers.

The actor often had problems with the law. He was sent to prison at least 10 times on various charges, including identity theft, grand theft, and heroin possession.

Despite this, the late actor's filmography includes dozens of successful projects. Moreover, two of them are being prepared for release later this year - Skull and Massive State Lottery.

Director Cameron Van Hoy repeatedly rescued the actor from prison because he saw great potential in him. After his death, the filmmaker said the following: "He was an incredibly talented actor. But he needed to focus on acting, not on street hustling. Buddy was pure electricity on the screen. Working with him was one of the greatest adventures of my life. He was a kind man who loved making movies. Despite all the difficulties he faced in life, he somehow managed to put them aside when it came time to work. We became very close after the shooting of the movie Flinch. I am heartbroken that his life was cut short like that."
