"Funds for the Armed Forces, and Yura to the front": Ukrainians respond sharply to Horbunov's justification for filming the series with state money
Ukrainians responded sharply to the host and producer Yuriy Horbunov, whose company received a tender for the filming of the comedy series "SMT Ingulets" worth UAH 33 million. The actor said that humorous film projects are needed, in particular, by the military, but the network users did not believe him.
The star was criticised for saying that Ukraine's defenders on the frontline need weapons, cars and drones, not jokes. The comments appeared on OBOZREVATEL's social media (scroll to the bottom of the page to see the photos).
Justifying himself for filming the drama, Horbunov said that the military needs humour and jokes. "I know that the military want positive and humour, as they react to jokes and funny stories. So I know for sure that humour is needed now," explained the owner of Prototype Production.
This excuse seemed unconvincing to Ukrainians, because every day they donate their own money to the needs of the military, while state money is used to create comedy film projects.
The artist was advised to go to the frontline and see what the defenders lack the most - weapons, drones and cars, or a 24-part series about IT workers who flee from the frontline in Kharkiv and end up in the village of Ingulets, run by a farmer nicknamed Batya. By the way, Oleksandr Povorozniuk allegedly became the prototype of Batya.
"Funds for the Armed Forces! And send Yuriy to the front to see how our soldiers are fighting now", "All Ukrainians write that they do not need this series, and Yuriy is trying to prove the opposite. Give the money to buy weapons for our defenders, because it's not funny anymore", "The military wants weapons and drones", "What humour can there be when our sons and daughters are dying?" "Why isn't Horbunov at war? If he was at the front, he would know what the military needs." "In such a difficult time, all funds should be directed to the Armed Forces," the comments read.
Earlier, OBOZREVATEL wrote that the Cabinet of Ministers paid about half a million hryvnias for a gift wristwatch. Read more about this tender here.
