Unfortunately, about 10-20 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage. Couples who have gone through traumatic experiences often keep it quiet and do not seek help. They are left alone with their grief... Recently, the topic of perinatal loss has been increasingly discussed in the media - not only ordinary women, but also celebrities talk about their difficult journey to motherhood.
Audrey Hepburn, Meghan Markle, Sharon Stone... Each of them shared her own experience to demonstrate that this problem is more widespread than it seems and to inspire others not to give up. Read more in the OBOZ.UA article.
1. Audrey Hepburn
British actress Audrey Hepburn in her youth, after surviving the Second World War, firmly decided that she wanted to have at least two children. However, for many years, her excessive thinness and busy schedules stood in the way. The result was 5 miscarriages... When the star of the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's took a break from filming, it helped her regain her strength, improve her health, and give birth to her son Sean. In another 10 years, she became the mother of a boy named Luke. At the peak of her career, the actress quit filmmaking to devote as much time as possible to charitable projects and raising her heirs.
2. Beyoncé
The American R&B singer Beyoncé has had one miscarriage. So, when she first became pregnant, she heard a heartbeat, which she called "the most beautiful music I've ever heard in my life." The star has already managed to imagine what her child will look like and what names would suit her best... Unfortunately, a week later, during a checkup, Beyoncé found out that the baby's heart was not beating.
"I went into the studio and wrote a song called Heartbeat. It was the best form of therapy for me because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through," the singer said in her documentary Life Is But a Dream (2013). Subsequently, the R&B queen became the mother of three children: in 2012, she gave birth to a daughter, Blue Ivy, and in 2017, twins Sera and Rumi.
3. Meghan Markle
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, wife of Prince Harry, suffered a pregnancy loss in July 2020 when her son Archie turned one. In December of the same year, she went public with her story in an essay she wrote for The New York Times. In it, she said that she experienced acute cramps while changing Archie's diaper. "I fell to the floor with my son in my arms, humming a lullaby to calm us both down... I knew that I was losing my child (unborn - Ed.) when I was clutching my firstborn son... Losing a child means suffering unbearable grief. It happens often, but few people talk about it," Meghan Markle wrote.
A few months later, the Duchess became pregnant again. In June 2021, she gave birth to a baby girl whom she named Lilibeth.
4. Sharon Stone
American actress Sharon Stone has had 9 miscarriages. The "Basic Instinct" star shared her experience after the US Supreme Court returned the power to regulate abortion to state legislatures (which endangers the lives and safety of countless women!). "We women have no forum to discuss the depth of this loss... I lost nine children. This is no small thing, neither physically nor emotionally. However, we have to endure it alone and with some feelings of failure," the star said in a comment to People's Instagram post.
After nine miscarriages, Sharon decided to adopt three boys - Roan, Quinn and Laird.
5. Brooke Shields
In 2001, actress and model Brooke Shields married screenwriter Chris Henchy. The star could not get pregnant. Eventually, she tried artificial insemination (IVF - in vitro fertilization). She managed to conceive a child, but three months later it ended in a miscarriage
"We were completely broken... Before that, I thought everything would work out. I was really ready to have a baby... I told myself that it (pregnancy - Ed.) worked once, and it can work again ," Brooke said in an interview. And she was not mistaken! In 2003, the star was able to give birth to a daughter, Rowan, and in 2006 - another girl, whom she named Greer.
