Electrical engineers from Mariupol: what is known about possible Eurovision 2025 participant, Ukrainian duo MOLODI, and their song

The Ukrainian music band MOLODI will compete for the opportunity to represent Ukraine in the international arena of Eurovision 2025, as they have made it to the final of the National Selection. The 23-year-old musicians Vanya and Kyrylo have been friends since their student days and trust each other completely.

In an interview with Eurovision Ukraine host Anna Tulieva, they told her that they are natives of Mariupol. They both graduated from a technical university as electrical engineers and did their internships at DTEK together.

Meeting and beginning of cooperation

The musicians consider it fate that they met during their studies as they could have entered different colleges and never got to know each other. When he was a student, Vanya was invited to join his first band. At the same time, Kyrylo developed his own musical career.

Around 2020, when Vanya's band started getting invited to corporate events, their guitarist left the band. Eventually, Kyrylo was offered to take his place, and since then, their joint creative journey has begun. The guys came up with the name MOLODI around 2021, when they were already in Kyiv.

The desire to get to Eurovision and the song my sea

Kyrylo and Vanya admitted that they consider themselves stylish, cool, and musical enough to represent Ukraine at an international song contest.

"We are confident that our song will tell the story of Ukrainians and the path we are on now without violating the Eurovision rules, rather emphasizing the emotional aspect of it as much as possible. The song is our story; we described everything we felt with it. We've been building up this energy and did not look for a 'plan B'. We chose the best: what we have, what we have learned. We invested fully in one song, and that's why we believe in it."

The song my sea is dedicated to their native Mariupol, "It's about how home is not a place, but a feeling. Our story is about a specific loss. The loss of our hometown."

What else MOLODI is known for

Kyrylo and Vanya are sound producers for many Ukrainian stars: Michelle Andrade, Ostrovskyi, Max Barskih, NK, Mayorova, and others.

"We are professionals, everything is always clear. When we are told to make a great song, we make a super cool one. We strive to make everything perfect," Vanya said. When asked what would happen if they were asked to make a song about the National Selection, he added, "We are professionals and can do anything."

Will MOLODI try again if they don't win the final?

The artists have not ruled out that they may not win the National Selection in 2025, but they claim that life does not end there.

"We understand how important it is to grow and develop, and so if we don't win first place this year, it means that we may have missed something," said Kyrylo, "and we will definitely push harder in the future."
