Charles III and Camilla were crowned for the second time in Scotland

On Wednesday, July 5, King Charles III and his wife Camilla were crowned for the second time in Scotland . The ceremony and service were held at St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, two months after the official coronation at Westminster Abbey in London.

Charles was presented with the treasures of the Scottish crown. The royal couple was accompanied by their main heirs, Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton. OBOZREVATEL collected pictures from the Scottish coronation of the sovereign.

It is known that the people's procession began at Edinburgh Castle and headed to Western Parliament Square near the Cathedral. The crown, sword and scepter, which are the badges of honor of Scotland, were brought to the ceremony accompanied by the royal guard and a guard of honor formed from members of the Navy, Army and Royal Air Force.

The ceremony was attended by about a hundred people. The first minister of Scotland, Hamza Yousaf, made a speech, among others.

The crown with the oldest jewels in the world, as well as the scepter and the sword of state was presented to the monarch by Olympic rowing champion Catherine Granger. It is noted that a new sword was made especially for the coronation for Charles III, since the existing sword from the 16th century became too fragile.

Interestingly, the crown was not placed on the sovereign's head during the coronation. Charles only held the symbol of power in his hands. This is due to the fact that Scotland is part of the British kingdom, that is, the son of Elizabeth II automatically became king of all the lands during the main ceremony in London.

For the occasion, the king and queen donned the robes of the Order of the Thistle, considered Scotland's greatest order of chivalry. Prince William appeared in the same outfit, as well as a Royal Air Force uniform with medals and garters. Catherine, on the other hand, appeared in public in a blue coat dress with a velvet collar by Catherine Walker & Co. and a hat of color by Philip Treacy.

After the ceremony, a 21-gun salute was given at Edinburgh Castle, and an aerial parade performed by the Royal Air Force Red Arrows took place over the castle.

As OBOZREVATEL wrote earlier, the second day of celebrations in honor of the official coronation of Charles III in London ended with a pompous concert, where Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and other stars performed. The ruler's son, William, Duke of Wales, also took the floor, movingly addressing his dad. All the details are in our story.
