Alan Badoev met with his children for the first time in four years: what do his son Borys and daughter Lolita look like today

For the first time in four years, Ukrainian filmmaker Alan Badoev was able to meet both of his children, Borys and Lolita, at the same time. The adult "kids" have been living abroad for a long time, and because of this, meetings with their father mostly take place in the format of video calls.

He said on Instagram that Internet communication is convenient but "ineffective" because it is no substitute for full-fledged hugs, smiles, and conversations. For all four years, the physical meeting was prevented by quarantine, and after a while, by Russia's full-scale invasion.

"I haven't seen my kids together for four years... First the COVID, then the war, so I got used to communicating via video. Although for me it's like drinking decaf coffee or dancing at a "quiet party" where everyone has their music in their headphones... These trends are too new and modern, they look "real" but are not. All of us, Ukrainians, know very well that this is no substitute for hugs and kisses before bedtime, when you smell your child's hair," the director wrote.

We managed to meet the children only when Badoev came to Spain to screen his documentary about the full-scale war, "The Long Day". He shared that Lola and Borys kept him company during the "tour," and the director himself tried to enjoy every moment with them.

"And finally we are together for a few days. The children accompanied me on my movie trip. Of course, I watched them... Diligently, every detail is important. Whether we have preserved our customs, whether we have acquired new ones, where we are far from each other, and where we are close. I write this and smile. Because it seems that we have never been closer than we are now. Because Lola, Boria, and I are like a very well-coordinated trio that knows all the parts of all the improvisations by feel. Everyone feels their place and the moment when they need to start a solo. It's a moment of perfect happiness and it's unconditional," he wrote inspiringly.

Borys is Zhanna Badoeva's son from her first marriage, whom Badoev adopted and considers his own. Currently, he is trying his hand at directing, which is going well. At the end of January 2024, he premiered a documentary about Italian artists of the last century that captivated the audience. Lolita is a daughter with Zhanna Badoeva. The girl is just finishing school, but she is thinking about her future career.
