The head of the Polish Ministry of Defense, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is against Ukraine's accession to the European Union until it resolves the issue of memory and exhumation of the victims of the Volyn tragedy. The politician emphasized his categorical disagreement with the softer position of Polish President Andrzej Duda.

The minister commented sharply on the relations between Warsaw and Kyiv in one of the Wirtualna Polska programs. He noted that now "the issue of military assistance is a matter of humanity and our security, but economic and historical issues need to be clarified."

"I do not change my opinion, although I see that President Duda has a different one. Ukraine will not join the European Union, there will be no agreement if it does not resolve the issue of the Volyn tragedy," Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

He promised that even if other EU members approve Ukraine's membership, the Polish Peasant Party, which he leads and is part of the government coalition, will oppose it. This will change only after the exhumation of the bodies of the dead and the commemoration of the victims of the Volyn tragedy.

Kosiniak-Kamysz is convinced that in order to join the European Union, it is necessary to fulfill not only economic conditions but also certain efforts "in terms of approaching the truth, history."

"History is not for historians, as [former Ukrainian Foreign Minister] Dmytro Kuleba said. This is the worst wording that can be used," Kosyniak-Kamysh said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

– Andrzej Duda recently spoke out against blocking Ukraine's accession to the EU because of the Volyn tragedy. According to him, those who seek this fit into the policy of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

– Kosiniak-Kamysz has already said that "Ukraine has no place in the European Union" if the Volyn issue is not resolved between Warsaw and Kyiv.
