NATO begins preparations for the summit in Washington

The North Atlantic Alliance has begun preparations for the summit of the bloc to be held in Washington in July. One of the main issues of the meeting will be the continuation of support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

This was stated by White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan at a briefing in Brussels. On Wednesday, February 7, a meeting of national security advisers from NATO countries took place there, Ukrinform reports. The July summit will be timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the bloc's creation.

According to Sullivan, the event will be an opportunity to demonstrate that "the Alliance is bigger, stronger and more united than it has ever been."

"We have addressed a wide range of issues, including those that will be central to the summit in Washington. The first is our joint assistance to Ukraine," the White House official said.

He noted that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, when he started the invasion of Ukraine, dreamed of splitting NATO. However, after two years of full-scale war, the unity of the bloc's countries "has never been stronger."

"Putin also expected that the allies' support for Ukraine would weaken. But today, many allies have reaffirmed their commitment to providing meaningful assistance to the brave Ukrainians who are defending their country," Sullivan emphasized.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen believes that Ukraine should be invited to join the North Atlantic Alliance at the NATO summit in July 2024. This could deprive Putin of the incentive to continue the war and pave the way for peace.
