US presidential candidate and former US President Donald Trump has responded to criticism from his opponents who have spoken about his ties to Russia. He called those who consider him a "friend of Russia" "sick."

As proof of the opposite, Trump mentioned the "Nord Stream 2" gas pipeline, noting that it was he who stopped the construction of this important project for Russia. The former US president said this in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson.

Trump reacted sharply to the mention of criticism of his "friendship with Russia." The odious politician did not mince words.

"They like to say that I was a friend of Russia, that I worked for Russia, that I was a Russian spy. These people are sick," the US presidential candidate said.

Trump also mentioned the construction of "Nord Stream 2" and emphasized that it was during his presidency that the project was blocked.

Earlier, Trump told how he threatened Vladimir Putin to stop him from a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. According to the former US president, he told the Russian dictator that if he dared to attack, the United States would strike Moscow.

Instead, Putin said he "does not remember" a conversation in which Trump threatened him with such a strike.
