Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has boasted of another meeting and discussion of global issues with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The two met on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan, and the Turkish leader claims to have seen his counterpart's desire for an alleged ceasefire in Ukraine.

He said this in an interview with journalists after the event. Among others, his words were quoted by the Turkish news television NTV.

Erdogan emphasized that he was present in Kazan (Republic of Tatarstan) at Putin's invitation. According to him, global and political issues were discussed there. At a personal meeting with the dictator, he talked for an hour about Ankara's "concern" about the war in Ukraine.

"We saw that Putin also wants to establish a permanent ceasefire. Our Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed this at their meetings in Istanbul," the Turkish president said.

In addition to the issues of "revitalizing" the Black Sea grain corridor and demining, he spoke with the Kremlin dictator and his delegation about Russia's expectations regarding the exchange of prisoners.

According to him, Ankara is closely "following the steps" of both countries regarding the exchange and "will continue to do everything possible to solve the problems through diplomatic means." In addition, the Turkish leader spoke about how he wants to help Moscow and Kyiv "achieve peace."

He explained that Turkey's desire is to start peace talks between the two countries "as soon as possible and prepare the ground for a favorable outcome." His country, the politician claims, will continue to "work tirelessly to achieve this goal."

"Because there will be no winners in war and no losers in peace. This war will definitely end, and we want to put an end to it without shedding more blood and tears," Erdogan said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Turkish president applied for associate membership in the BRICS on the eve of the 16th summit. However, India blocked Ankara's attempt to join the organization because of its close ties with Pakistan.
