"There are Russian and Chinese submarines everywhere": Trump explains why the US needs Greenland
President-elect Donald Trump explained why, in his opinion, America should exercise a protectorate (in one form or another) over Greenland. According to him, it is necessary for "international security."
The American president said this during a press conference in the Oval Office. According to Politico, Donald Trump referred to threats from Russia and China.
In particular, Trump said that Denmark is unable to "hold" Greenland due to lack of funds.
"Greenland is a great place. We need it for international security. And I'm sure Denmark will do it - they need a lot of money to maintain, to keep Greenland," the American president said.
Trump corrected himself that "Greenland is not needed by the United States, it is needed for international security."
"You have Russian boats everywhere, you have Chinese ships everywhere - warships - and Denmark cannot contain it," he clarified.
The American did not explain how the United States would be able to "restrain" Russia and China in the Greenland area, where the United States has a military base.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, shortly before his father's inauguration, his eldest son Donald Trump Jr. filmed a propaganda video in Greenland - as it turned out, with homeless people in the lead role. In the video, they talked about how the people of Greenland are waiting for America. The elder Trump also referred to this video.
"The people of Greenland are not happy with Denmark, but I know they are happy with us. We had representatives and my son there two weeks ago. And they like us. So we'll see what happens next," the American president promised.
According to the publication, Trump did not mention Greenland in his inaugural speech, although he repeated his promise to return the Panama Canal.
