State Departmenе: U.S. urged China to end military pressure on Taiwan

The US has called on China to stop pressuring Taiwan. The statement came after Beijing launched military exercises around the democratically governed island as a response to Taiwan Vice President William Lai's visit to Washington, DC

This was reported by Reuters. The exercises, as well as air and sea patrols around Taiwan, were launched by the PRC on August 19.

"We urge Beijing to cease military, diplomatic and economic pressure on Taiwan and instead engage in meaningful dialog with Taiwan," a State Department spokesman told the agency.

He added that the US will continue to closely monitor the military exercises on the part of China.

As it is known, Beijing considers the Taiwanese island its territory. However, the latter aspires to be a separate democratic state. At the same time, the United States supports Taiwan, which has repeatedly and openly stated.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, Russian companies specializing in the manufacture of missile systems, armored vehicles and strategic bombers have received a significant amount of supplies from Chinese partners. There has been a global interaction between the two countries from the beginning of the active phase of cooperation between Russia and China until the first quarter of this year.

Earlier, United States Intelligence (CIA) chief William Burns called Russian President Vladimir Putin's efforts a "huge strategic failure for Russia." According to Burns, Putin has helped strengthen the Western coalition in support of Ukraine and could eventually make Russia an economic colony of China.
