Russian threats to Britain are no longer theoretical - former NATO Secretary General

Robertson said the threats from Russia to Britain have become real

The threat to the UK from Russia is no longer theoretical. It is very real, alive and well in today's Ukraine. It is therefore vital that the British army is strong enough to deter any threat.

This was stated by the former NATO Secretary General, Lord George Robertson, speaking in the House of Lords on July 25. He was quoted by Sky News.

Robertson is leading a comprehensive review of the UK's armed forces initiated by new Prime Minister Keir Starmer to assess the defense challenges facing the country.

In his speech, Robertson pointed to the "immoral behavior" of Russian troops as an example of what is at stake today. He emphasized that it is essential that the British Armed Forces are strong enough to deter this threat.

"We must recognize that the threats to our country and our citizens are no longer theoretical. They are no longer a distant possibility. They are very real in today's Ukraine, where Putin's Russia has brutally invaded and is trying to occupy a peaceful, neighboring, independent, prosperous nation-state," the former NATO Secretary General emphasized.

Anyone who needs to be reminded of what is at stake in the modern world should look at the immoral behavior of Putin's invaders in Crimea and the parts of Donbas they currently occupy, George Robertson emphasized.

As reported, a similar opinion was expressed by the commander of NATO forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli. He stated that regardless of how the war in Ukraine ends, Russia will be a threat to Western countries for many years to come, and we need to prepare for this.
