"Prudent approach": China rejects the possibility of supplying arms to Russia
China has stated that it will not sell weapons to any of the parties involved in the war in Ukraine. They assured that the country adheres to a prudent and responsible approach in this matter.
This position was voiced by Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang at a press conference with his German counterpart Annalena Burbock following her visit to China, AP reports. He added that China will also regulate the export of dual-use civilian and military goods.
"When it comes to the export of military goods, China takes a reasonable and responsible stance," Qin said.
The minister also reiterated China's readiness to help find a peaceful solution to the conflict.
As reported by The Washington Post, leaked Pentagon classified documents stated that China had allegedly approved the provision of lethal assistance to Russia in the war in Ukraine in early 2023. Beijing planned to disguise military equipment as civilian items.
"We have seen no evidence that China has transferred weapons or provided lethal assistance to Russia. But we remain concerned and continue to monitor the situation closely," one of the US officials commented.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL:
- earlier, Chinese leader Xi Jinping said that peace talks between Ukraine and Russia were necessary. According to him, an escalation of hostilities should not be allowed;
- At the same time, China itself is probably preparing for the outbreak of war. He made this statement a day after a Chinese aircraft carrier rehearsed a blockade of the island of Taiwan during an exercise.
