Pope Francis has been invited to the Global Peace Summit to be held in June in Switzerland. It is not yet known whether the pontiff will attend, but the Vatican is very positive about the peace conference.

This was stated by Swiss President Viola Amherd in an interview with the Blick newspaper published on May 5. In particular, she said that during her meeting with Francis on Saturday, May 4, the war in Ukraine was also discussed.

Amherd called the conversation with the pontiff "interesting."

"I had an interesting conversation with the Pope in a warm atmosphere. In particular, we talked about the war in Ukraine and other hot spots in the world," she said.

The Swiss President also confirmed that the Pope had been invited to the summit.

"We have invited the Holy See. The Vatican is very positive about the peace conference," she said in response to a question about whether Francis would attend.

In late April, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with French journalist Hugo Travers that he had invited the Pope to participate in a peace summit in Switzerland.

Zelensky said that he had met with Francis twice and that the dialogue was quite good, but then the Pope made some strange statements.

According to Zelensky, it is important to involve as many respected leaders and representatives, religious leaders, etc. in the cause of peace in Ukraine as possible. Therefore, it is important that these people take part in the summit.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said earlier that Russia had not been invited to the peace summit, but Moscow should take part in the peace process in the future, as the peace process is allegedly "unthinkable" without it.

In total, Switzerland has invited more than 160 delegations. Among them are representatives of the UN, OSCE, G7, G20, BRICS, EU, Council of Europe, Vatican, and the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
