Poland sends a significant batch of fighter jets to Ukraine

Poland has announced the number of MiG-29 aircraft that have been transferred to Ukraine as part of its military assistance. The Ukrainian Air Force will receive ten fighter jets, which will help to conduct the counter-offensive announced by the General Staff earlier.

This was stated by the head of the Polish defence ministry, Mariusz Błaszczak, according to his ministry's press service on Twitter. He arrived in Canada on an official visit and addressed Kyiv.

"Poland has provided Ukraine with 10 MiG-29 fighters," he said briefly.

Earlier, the Ukrainian army also received 13 fighter jets from Slovakia. According to the head of the defence ministry, Yaroslav Nagy, the fighter jets were delivered to Ukraine by land with the highest possible safety in mind.

The MiG-29 is a fourth-generation Soviet multi-role fighter jet. It used to be the main multi-role fighter aircraft of the Warsaw Pact countries and the USSR in the 1980s. It is currently in service with the air forces of several countries.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Polish leader Duda had previously spoken about Warsaw's readiness to transfer the MiG-29 as part of an international coalition. According to him, Poland still has "a dozen MiG-29s" received in the early 90s from the GDR army. To replace them, the country will receive modern FA-50s from South Korea and American F-35s. At the same time, the number of aircraft that Poland plans to transfer to Kyiv was not officially specified. No timeframe was mentioned either.
