The 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden, along with the first lady, chose purple outfits for Donald Trump's inauguration. Jill Biden wore a Ralph Lauren coat, gloves and bright pumps, and Joe Biden opted for a tie of the same color.

According to Page Six, in American politics purple usually symbolizes a bipartisan alliance. As noted, the couple thus demonstrated political unity.

"[Purple] represents a blending and coming together of the red and blue, which are the two colors that represent each of the major political parties in the U.S," said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, to WWD during Joe Biden's inauguration in 2021.

Blue is associated with the Democratic Party, and red - with the Republican.

President Biden also wore a dark-colored Ralph Lauren coat, complementing the look with a purple tie that echoed the first lady's monochrome look.

It is worth noting that in 2021, Kamala Harris also chose a purple coat and dress from American designers Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson during Joe Biden's inauguration.

At the time, the American media also wrote that according to color theory, the mixture of red and blue symbolized the unity of the two parties, Democrats and Republicans, in Harris's look.
