In Vilnius (Lithuania), on the morning of October 20, a drunken 40-year-old man set a series of arson attacks near administrative buildings, including the Ministry of National Defense, the Prosecutor General's Office, and the State Service for the Protection of Children's Rights. The suspect was detained in an inadequate condition.
According to DELFI, the first report of the fire was received around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday. On the first floor of the Prosecutor General's Office building, wooden structures and film were temporarily installed, and they caught fire.
After that, at about 6:00, an arson took place on the neighboring street. The doors of a building housing several institutions were on fire.
After 40 minutes, a garbage container started to burn. Before that, it was dragged to the door of the building of the Child Protection Service.
At 7:12 a.m., a fire broke out in the Defense Ministry building, with heavy smoke forming on the ground floor. Rescuers found that an unused wooden entrance door was on fire from the courtyard. At 7:57, the fire was completely extinguished.
"When we arrived, the door was burning with an open flame, the room was full of smoke... Since the facility is not ordinary, five tankers and a staff car were sent there. We managed to extinguish the fire and ventilate the premises fairly quickly," a representative of the local fire protection and rescue department told reporters.
Police officer Ramunas Matonis said that the police had caught the suspect. He is a Lithuanian born in 1984, whose behavior was inadequate. He used a flammable liquid. The motives for his actions are still unknown.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, a 35-year-old Ukrainian citizen was found dead in the Dutch city of Assen, who had filed a report of sexual violence with the police shortly before her death. Her former partner is suspected of both crimes.
