High-ranking Hezbollah official eliminated in Lebanon: Israel is suspected to be behind it

On Monday, January 8, a high-ranking Hezbollah commander, Wissam Tawil, was killed in the southern Lebanese city of Majdal Selm, about 6 km from the border with Israel. He was the deputy head of the elite Radwan unit.

This was reported by Reuters, citing information from sources in the Lebanese security services. According to their data, Tawil was killed as a result of an Israeli drone strike on his car.

According to The Times of Israel, Hezbollah also confirmed the death of Tawil, known as Hajj Jawad, in a statement. The group claimed that Israel was behind the strike in southern Lebanon that killed their senior official.

Lebanese security forces also reported that another Hezbollah fighter who was in the car with Tawil was killed in the strike.

Reuters, citing a Lebanese security source, noted that Wissam Tawil is the most senior Hezbollah commander killed since the outbreak of hostilities three months ago when the Lebanese terrorist group began firing on northern Israel.

"This is a very painful blow. Things are about to get worse," the source said.

At the same time, the Israeli Defense Forces did not confirm that they had eliminated Wissam Tawil.

As reported, on January 2, an Israeli drone struck the Hamas headquarters in the suburbs of Beirut. As a result of the drone strike, the deputy leader of Hamas, Saleh al-Arouri, who was considered the third in the hierarchy of this terrorist organization, was killed.
