German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has backed the deal with the United States to deploy long-range US missiles in Germany. According to her, such cooperation with Washington will help deter Russian aggression.

It is about the deployment of Tomahawk cruise missiles and advanced hypersonic weapons in Germany. This was reported by DW.

Baerbock said that Russia is a threat to European security, so the deployment of American missile weapons in Europe is fully justified.

"Making foreign policy today means recognizing that the principle of hope will not protect us from [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's Russia. What protects us now is that we invest in our own security and strength — in the EU, in NATO and in Germany. And this includes the decision to deploy long-range American weapons systems," Baerbock said.

She also added that Germany needs a credible deterrent against Russia that will also protect the Baltic states, Poland and Finland. The minister emphasized that these countries have a direct border with Russia and have been facing hybrid aggression from Russia in recent months.

It is worth noting that the United States and Germany agreed to deploy long-range fire systems in Germany in 2026 on the sidelines of the NATO summit in July. This step will lead to the return of American long-range cruise missiles to Germany for the first time since the late 1990s. It is about SM-6 and Tomahawk missiles.

Earlier, dictator Vladimir Putin said after the US missiles will be deployed in Germany, "important Russian facilities" will be within their range, and the flight time will be about ten minutes. He threatened to consider the Russian Federation free from the moratorium on the deployment of its own weapons in response to such actions.
