German Minister of Economy and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck said that if he were to head the government, he would agree to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles. He is currently a candidate for chancellor from the Green Party.

At a speech before the vote, the politician was asked whether he would reconsider the decision of current Chancellor Olaf Scholz against the supply of these long-range missiles to Kyiv. This was reported by Die Zeit.

"The answer to this question is yes," Habeck said.

According to him, as federal minister of economy, he has repeatedly had to make decisions on arms supplies.

"It was part of my office, and they were some of the hardest decisions I had to make," he said.

German media report that Robert Habeck will lead the Union-90/Greens electoral list in the early Bundestag elections to be held on February 23. His nomination was supported by 96.5% of the participants of the party's federal congress in Wiesbaden on Sunday, November 17.

According to Deutsche Welle, in his speech before the vote, the 55-year-old Habeck emphasized that he would like to take a responsible position, building on the experience gained in previous years. The politician said that he wanted to take responsibility "for the people in Germany" and also mentioned the problems associated with climate change and the rise of populism.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Bundestag may put to a vote the issue of providing Ukraine with Taurus missiles. This possibility is being considered by representatives of the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP), which left the coalition.
