In 2025, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico will travel to Moscow to celebrate May 9 with Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin. The politician said that he "gladly" accepted the invitation of the so-called Russian president.

Fico may become the first representative of Slovakia to pay an official visit to Russia after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Fico boasted about his planned trip to the aggressor country on Facebook.

He noted the role of the USSR "in the defeat of fascism and victory in the brutal world war." According to the politician, Slovak citizens "respectfully remember all the anniversaries and events associated with the liberation of our territory by the Red Army in 1944-1945."

His government also supports "the legacy of the fight against fascism, the historical truth about World War II and the role played by the Red Army."

"In 2025, the Slovak government will take care of organizing several events, culminating in the May celebrations of the victory over fascism. In the spirit of the above, it is natural that I, as the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, am extremely interested in participating in the official celebrations... Therefore, I have gladly accepted the official invitation of the "President" of the Russian Federation Putin to participate in these important celebrations, which I will do," Fico wrote.

Earlier, Fico said that it was his "personal duty" to visit Moscow on May 9, 2025.

As OBOZ.UA reported, Robert Fico also called on Europe not to support Ukraine in the war against Russia. He did not rule out a quick end to the war and reminded that his Smer-SD party is against Kyiv's accession to NATO, as it would allegedly provoke World War III.
