On December 26, a new generation Chinese fighter jet, the Shenyang J-50, took to the skies. Some of its characteristics have also become known - they are not official, and the machine is currently at the prototype stage. However, if the data published about the aircraft is accurate, the J-50 can be called a rather serious opponent.
This was reported by the Ukrainian military portal Defence Express. It is reported that the length of the twin-engine aircraft and the span of the J-50's lambda wing is 22 meters, and the wing area is 145 square meters.

The fighter has a maximum takeoff weight of 40 tons, a maximum speed of Mach 2, and a combat radius of about 2,200 km.
The J-50 apparently has several weapons bays, one of which is the largest. The latter is supposed to accommodate four new Chinese PL-17 air-to-air missiles, which entered service with the Chinese air force in 2022. These missiles, which are 6 meters long, have a range of 300 kilometers, although some sources say as much as 500 kilometers.

This large compartment can also accommodate one YJ-12 anti-ship missile, which has a speed of up to Mach 3 and a range of up to 400 km. This missile has quite impressive dimensions: it is 6.3 meters long and over 0.4 meters in diameter.

One or two more internal compartments could accommodate four more PL-17s, or the Chinese equivalent of the AIM-120, the PL-15.
