Under Biden, NATO is stronger and bigger than ever before: White House responds to Trump's scandalous statement
The North Atlantic Alliance has expanded and increased its strength during the presidency of Joe Biden. The White House has emphasized that it takes the obligations under Article 5 of the Treaty to protect member states in the event of an attack seriously.
This was stated by John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the White House National Security Council, at a briefing on February 12, commenting on the scandalous statements of former US President Donald Trump. The latter said that he would "encourage Russia" to attack NATO countries that do not invest enough in collective defense.
Kirby emphasized that the United States' alliances and partnerships must remain strong and ready for action as this is directly in the interest of American national security.
"Under the current president Joe Biden, the NATO alliance is now more significant, stronger, and larger than ever before," the official emphasized.
Washington considers the development of the US network of alliances and partnerships around the world to be one of its priorities.
"Of course, NATO is at the forefront when it comes to security on the European continent. And that's what the American president should be doing: strengthening alliances and partnerships and sending a message, particularly to NATO allies, about how seriously we take our Article 5 commitments," Kirby emphasized.
He recalled that Biden has repeatedly reaffirmed that the United States will "defend every inch" of the North Atlantic Alliance's territory if necessary.
