"There is no taboo": Netherlands negotiates F-16 fighter jets for Ukraine

The Dutch government is aware of the need for F-16 fighter jets for the Ukrainian Defence Forces and is actively negotiating with European partners to provide them. Prime Minister Mark Rutte compared this issue to the supply of Leopard tanks, which was also discussed for a long time in Western circles, but eventually ended successfully for Kyiv.

The head of the Dutch government made this statement at a conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in The Hague. He assured that it is worth having patience in this matter in order to get the necessary aircraft.

"There is no taboo about the F-16. We are working very closely with Belgium, Denmark, the United Kingdom and other partners to bring this to completion. We have not yet come to that point. This is a very sensitive topic," Rutte said.

In response, the Ukrainian guarantor stressed that any transfer of military equipment begins with training of allied soldiers in its operation. Only those countries that have the appropriate facilities and resources can train Ukrainian Air Force pilots to fly F-16s.

"But this is a complicated issue, just like the issue of consolidation of countries regarding our future in the EU, consolidation of countries regarding our future in NATO. We are working on it. I am confident that we will have a positive result, because we have no other choice," Zelenskyy concluded.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, French President Emmanuel Macron has not ruled out the possibility of transferring fighter jets to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He did not specify when this might happen. At the same time, the politician stressed that the state does not set any limits on military support for Ukraine, which is fighting Russia's attack.

Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte also said that his country would consider the transfer of F-16s if Kyiv made such a request.
