Syria demands that Russia recognize "past mistakes" and pay compensation: details of negotiations emerge
Syria demands that the terrorist country Russia pay compensation and recognize "past mistakes." These statements were made during the visit of the Russian delegation to Damascus after the fall of the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad on January 28.
This was reported by the Russian media. In turn, it is not known what specific compensation Syria wants to receive from Russia.
However, the talks emphasized "Russia's role in restoring relations with the Syrian people through concrete measures, such as compensation and assistance in reconstruction." The new Syrian administration emphasized that "the restoration of relations should take into account past mistakes."
According to RosZN, the head of the Russian delegation, Mikhail Bogdanov, said that the talks with Syrian representatives went well, but he emphasized that he understood "how difficult the situation is."
At the same time, the Syrian statement did not mention two key Russian military bases that the Kremlin wants to keep. Bogdanov told reporters that no progress had been made on this issue and that negotiations should continue.
It should be noted that these bases are of strategic importance to Moscow, as they help maintain influence in the Middle East and Africa.
On January 28, the first official delegation from the Russian Federation since the fall of dictator Bashar al-Assad arrived in Syria. Russian officials came to Damascus to discuss the continued Russian presence at the Khmeimim air base and the Tartus seaport. However, Russia seems to have no confidence in the success of the talks. Satellites record that Russian military personnel are evacuating military property from the port of Tartus.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, according to Lloyd Austin, Russia will feel the consequences of losing its military bases in Syria after Bashar al-Assad's escape and the overthrow of his regime. This will reduce Russia's military capabilities on the African continent.
