Nausėda's rival Šimonite, nominated by the Fatherland Union - Lithuanian Christian Democrats, has already conceded defeat and congratulated him on his victory, LRT reports.

"I would like to congratulate the elected president of Lithuania," she told reporters.

Gitanas Nausėda, in turn, announced that he had secured a second five-year term as president of Lithuania.

"The Lithuanian people have given me a great mandate of trust, and I am well aware that I will have to value this credit of trust. I appreciate your sincere support for Ukraine and I am confident that by working together we will ensure freedom, peace and security in Ukraine, the Baltic States and our entire Europe," he wrote on social network X.
