Nausėda's rival Šimonite, nominated by the Fatherland Union - Lithuanian Christian Democrats, has already conceded defeat and congratulated him on his victory, LRT reports.

"I would like to congratulate the elected president of Lithuania," she told reporters.

Šimonite added that she would return to her job as prime minister on Monday. According to her, her current position did not help her during the election campaign.

Gitanas Nausėda, in turn, announced that he had secured a second five-year term as president of Lithuania.

"The Lithuanian people have given me a great mandate of trust, and I am well aware that I will have to value this credit of trust. Now that I have five years of experience, I believe that I will be able to use this value properly, primarily to achieve the goals of prosperity for all the people of Lithuania," he told reporters in Vilnius.

I appreciate your sincere support for Ukraine and I am confident that by working together we will ensure freedom, peace and security in Ukraine, the Baltic States and our entire Europe," he wrote on social network X.
