Italy has officially recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. The approval of this decision was expressed by the Italian Senate.

This was reported by the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba on Twitter. He thanked the Italian parliamentarians.

"This important step restores historical justice, honors millions of victims and warns future generations against the crime of genocide," Kuleba stressed.

In addition, the head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak commented on the event.

"I welcome the Italian Senate's recognition of the Holodomor as genocide. Calling things by their proper names is the key to prevent the repetition of horrific crimes. We are grateful to Italy for its powerful and multifaceted support for Ukraine in the fight for our future and the restoration of justice. Victory over Russian evil and historical justice is what it should be," he wrote.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, more and more states are joining the initiative to recognize the Holodomor as a genocide of Ukrainians as a nation by the authorities of the Soviet Union. Recently the unanimous decision on the adoption of the relevant declaration was approved by the Croatian Parliament.

Earlier, the events in Ukraine in 1932-1933 were called genocide by the deputies of Slovakia, while London came forward with such an initiative in May this year.
