Although Italy's ruling party passed a vote of no confidence in Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, he remained in office. Only 129 deputies voted in favor of Salvini's resignation in the parliament, while 211 voted against.

The vote of no confidence in the deputy prime minister was brought forward because of the ties between his far-right League party and the Russian dictator's United Russia party. Salvini is also accused of being a fan of Vladimir Putin.

Back in March 2017, the League signed a five-year agreement with the United Russia party, which was extended in 2022. Among other things, the agreement included clauses on the joint fight against illegal immigration and Islamic terrorism, as well as political activities to end sanctions against Russia.

However, Salvini assures that "the war has completely changed the judgment and political relations of the League party with Russia." "The purely political intentions of cooperation from 2017 between the League and United Russia no longer have any value after the invasion of Ukraine," he said.

The deputy prime minister was again called upon to show any documents on the termination of cooperation between the parties instead of words. However, he did not do so.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Italy has repeatedly raised the issue of combating all forms of Russia's circumvention of sanctions. In particular, this issue was singled out in a separate article of the bilateral security agreement signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky and Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni.
