Iran calls on Ukraine to stop supporting "terrorist groups" in Syria
Iran has claimed that Ukraine is allegedly supporting "terrorists" in Syria. In particular, the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims that Ukrainian officials are allegedly selling weapons received from the United States to opposition forces opposing the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad in this Arab state.
Tehran said that such support violates international obligations in the fight against terrorism and demanded that Kyiv "immediately stop" it. This was reported by Iran Nuances and Mehr News Agency.
"Iran's assistant foreign minister called on Ukraine to stop supporting terrorists in Syria, saying the move violates states' commitments to fight terrorism," Iran Nuances said in a statement on the X network.
The accusations against Ukraine were voiced by Mojtaba Damirchilou, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran and Director General of the Eurasia Department at the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
He stated that some Ukrainian officials were allegedly engaged in illegal trade in American weapons, which the United States had provided for the needs of the Ukrainian army. According to Damirchilu, Ukraine is supporting "terrorist groups in Syria" and Tehran demands that such actions be "immediately stopped."
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also said that the confrontation between the rebels and Assad's troops is allegedly being used to "destabilize the region," which, according to him, is "an unethical policy that contradicts all principles and norms of international law."
Also, the diplomat of the country that has been helping Russia wage an aggressive war of aggression against Ukraine for years suddenly remembered that "alliances with terrorism only lead to more danger and violence in the world, and sooner or later it will affect those who support it."
At the same time, Damirchilu called Ukraine's statements about Iran's role in the Russian-Ukrainian war "groundless." He reiterated the official position of Tehran, which has consistently denied that it is providing assistance to Russia. According to a representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Iran allegedly "has consistently opposed the war from the very beginning, did not participate in the conflict, and has always called for dialogue to find a diplomatic solution to the differences."
A few days ago, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that Russia and Iran bear the main responsibility for the situation in Syria. The escalation of hostilities in the country, diplomats believe, is a direct result of decades of rule by the Assad regime, which suppressed its own people and turned Syria into a training ground for Russian and Iranian criminal regimes, as well as their proxies, including the Hezbollah group.
