China has changed its position on Ukraine

The Chinese leadership changed its stance on the war in Ukraine before the G20 summit in India. Beijing chose a softer approach to Ukraine compared to last year.

At the same time, the countries urged to find a compromise with the aggressor country Russia in the final communiqué of the G20 summit. This is reported by Bloomberg.

An unnamed French official said that China softened its position on the war in Ukraine ahead of the G20 summit. Last year, Beijing maintained a neutral stance, refraining from openly supporting Russia. This position benefited Moscow.

Now Chinese officials involved in the negotiations on the final communiqué of the G20 summit have chosen a softer approach to Ukraine compared to last year. All G20 countries agreed on a common language regarding the war in Ukraine but called for a compromise with Russia nonetheless.

According to a French official, last year most G20 leaders condemned the war in Ukraine in a joint communiqué. The absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping at the summit in India has cast a shadow on the prospect of achieving peace in Ukraine.

India decided not to invite Ukraine to the G20 summit scheduled for September 9-10, 2023 in New Delhi. At the same time, the list of participants includes Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. This fact caused outrage online.

China's ambiguous position on Russia's invasion of Ukraine pushed most European countries away from the idea of cooperation with Beijing. In particular, European leaders refused to attend the Belt and Road Initiative.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Chinese leader Xi Jinping allegedly personally warned Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin against using nuclear weapons against Ukraine. This shows Beijing's concern about Russia's war in Ukraine, even despite Moscow's "tacit support."
