Biden announces more air defence systems for Ukraine after Russian strike on Okhmatdyt children's hospital
US President Joe Biden reacted to Russia's massive missile attack on Ukraine, in particular on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital. The head of the White House said that the shelling, which killed 37 people, is a "horrific reminder of Russia's brutality."
Biden called on the world not to ignore Russian aggression and promised Ukraine more air defense systems. The US leader's statement was published on the White House website.
"Russia's missile strikes that killed dozens of Ukrainian civilians and damaged the largest children's hospital in Kyiv today is a horrific reminder of Russia's brutality. It is imperative that the world continues to stand with Ukraine at this critical moment and that we do not ignore Russia's aggression," Biden said.
The US President has confirmed that he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the NATO Summit in Washington on July 9-11.
"I will welcome President Zelenskyy and NATO leaders in Washington this week. I will meet with President Zelensky to make it clear that our support for Ukraine is unwavering," the statement reads.
Biden confirmed that at the NATO summit, the allies will announce assistance to Ukraine, including air defense equipment.
"Together with our allies, we will announce new measures to strengthen Ukraine's air defense to help protect their cities and civilians from Russian attacks. The United States stands with the people of Ukraine," the US leader added.
On the morning of July 8, the terrorist country Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine. The enemy fired missiles at Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih and other cities. As of 23:00, there were 37 dead and more than 170 wounded.
In the capital, a Russian missile hit the Okhmatdyt children's hospital. In addition to the hospital, other facilities were damaged, including one of the entrances to an apartment building. In Kyiv, 27 people died (including 3 children). 82 people were injured.
As reported, earlier, the White House said that at the NATO summit, the United States plans to announce new steps to strengthen Ukraine's air defense and military capabilities. Allies will demonstrate "strong support for Ukraine".
