Zelenskyy dismissed Danilov from the post of NSDC Secretary and appointed a successor: what is known

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Oleksiy Danilov from the post of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Instead, the NSDC will be headed by the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Oleksandr Lytvynenko.

The relevant decrees were published on the President's website on March 26. Zelenskyy also appointed a new head of the Foreign Intelligence Service.

"Dismiss Danilov Oleksiy Myacheslavovych from the post of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine," reads the presidential decree number 186/2024, dated March 26.

The reasons for the dismissal of Danilov, who had been heading the NSDC since October 3, 2019, are not stated in the decree.

Instead of Danilov, the NSDC was headed by Oleksandr Lytvynenko, who until now had been the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. The relevant changes were enshrined in decrees 187/2024 and 188/2024.

Lytvynenko became the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service on July 23, 2021. Prior to that, from April 4, 2014, to August 13, 2019, he was Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.

Zelenskyy also appointed Lytvynenko's successor in the SZR: Oleg Ivashchenko will now head the foreign intelligence service.
